I am having one of those pleasing, relaxing comforting moments. One of those moments you don’t seek out, they just happen. They take a while to recognize but you feel it and then it slowly comes into focus.
I visited a house that had/has one owner. It was built in the 1950s. A little ranch that’s amazingly simple and fully functional. It has pine-knot panels (not sure if that’s what you call it), a front door that is a fantastic representation of houses built in the middle of the 20th century with 3 rectangular windows running horizontally each getting a little shorter as the progress down the top third of the door. 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, a smaller living room and a kitchen with a huge stove that is probably from the 60s…maybe earlier. It took my daughter a second or two to figure out how to turn on the burner.
It reminds me of my grandparents house in Dunn, NC. I am probably not remembering that house very well as I only visited a couple of times and not since the 70s but this is the vibe I get from being in this house.
It’s just comfortable.
It also reminds me that we don’t need 3000 square foot house with all the bells and whistles. We just need simplicity and love.
That’s what I feel in this house…pretty cool.
