I struggle to understand why so many on the right are against the Covid vaccine. A vaccine that was developed and administered in record time. An accomplishment that saved possible hundreds of thousands of lives – maybe millions – by the Trump Administration.
I just finished reading (listening – I use Audible a ton) the book “Warp Speed” by Paul Mango. Mango was part of the Warp Speed team. In my opinion, the book was heavily slanted and I would love an impartial accounting of the development of the vaccine but it was still a very interesting listen and one that furthered my confusion on why this vaccine is so hated (too strong of a word?) by so many people on the right.
The science, the logistics, the cooperation needed from the private sector and public sector was an amazing feat and one that should be celebrated. I believe there should be no doubt that it saved lives and allowed our country and the world to get back to “normal”, whatever that is/was.
Hindsight being what it is, you could have some thoughts on if kids really needed the vaccine and all of that stuff. It was a once in a 100 year pandemic and we all had to figure things on the fly and some precautions may seem silly looking back but at the time (like my wife taking all of her clothes off in the laundry room before coming into the house – enjoyable for me but probably silly). We just wanted to be ok.
The vaccine allowed us to be ok.
I recommend this book if only to give some top-line information on the history and development of the vaccine and to give a beginning understanding on why we should celebrate Project Warp Speed. It doesn’t go too deep and that was disappointing. The fawning over our dear leader was annoying at times but I enjoyed furthering my knowledge (especially the logistics of the storing, accounting and shipping of the vaccines)…even if just a little bit.
