Instead of Reacting – Let’s Shout

Instead of reacting and talking about our current President, why don’t we shout out our own ideas? Cement those ideas into structures and then sell, sell, sell!

There is too much stuff coming from this administration to try to keep up with and react/comment on.

So stop it!

I wrote the above as notes/reminders/title to write a post. I decided to leave them as the introduction to this post because, well…why not.

I have often thought – and let me first state that I have never coached before – that a football team could eliminate a lot of film study by just working on and perfecting what they do and become so dominate at it that they can’t be stopped – at least on offense. I never understood why coaches spend so many hours during the season studying to be ready for the next opponent when they could just say, “we’re doing this and see if you can stop us!” Their is somebody open on every play, there is a place to run on every play so perfect the execution until you hit it every time. Maybe (probably) this is naive but I believe that you take action, perfect your strategy and move forward.

I thought the same thing when I worked at Kroger and the company started to turn into Walmart. I don’t know how many meetings I sat in and heard things like, “Walmart did this so we need to react.” I may be paraphrasing but it was close to this. I would respond with, “we are big enough and strong enough so why don’t we just be Kroger, have our own identity and then execute?” I didn’t win and Kroger is now, at least in my opinion, another Walmart. Of course, shareholders are happy and maybe that is the point. (Not maybe – definitely)

Here is what we should do in opposition to the current administration and congressional make-up. Instead of reacting to the fire hose of junk coming out let’s perfect our message, work on our execution of this message and move forward. We sell our message. Sure we can comment on the opposition and how moronic their ideas and actions are but we should “hold the floor” and give the disciplined message. Easier said than done because we have such a big tent but there are some talented politicians in our camp. Let’s come together, do the hard work of developing and structuring the ideas and messaging, then go execute.

We don’t need to become like them. We don’t need performative politics. Let’s grab the headlines by taking charge – not by reacting.
