Coming Down the Escalator

I am announcing my bid for office. How do I look?

I heard the other day that the last two Democratic Presidents came out of nowhere to win the presidency. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were relatively unknown compared to the “usual” candidates. You could probably go back to the last three Democratic Presidents and add Jimmy Carter into this statement. It got me thinking.

I’m a relative unknown

Shoot…I bet many of my relatives don’t know who I am.

I can come out of nowhere…

I can become President!

An interesting thought but take me out of the equation and think about this a little. Perhaps we need another “unknown” candidate. One with ideas a little bit different than the mainstream candidates. One that brings a certain plain-spoken energy to the process. (Although Obama was not plain-spoken he proved he could connect with people)

We need a candidate that can express a path for our country that is not doom and gloom but one that moves us all in a positive direction and one that can be articulated in a manner that does not demonize but inspires.

It is very easy…oh so easy…to point out what is wrong with things. It is much harder to see what’s wrong, state what is wrong while also offering well crafted solutions explained in simple terms. What are we going to do instead of just what the other folks are not doing or doing badly. Is there a candidate out there that can do this?

Of course it’s more than just the message. This candidate will have to be able to form a coalition to execute on the message – to get things done.

I will form my exploratory committee and work on my messaging. Right after I get off my escalator.
