Eleni, our youngest, is just big enough to start Kids CrossFit. Kids CrossFit is a wonderful thing that introduces kids – duh – to the world of CrossFit style exercise. Her sister has been going for a couple of years now and Eleni was looking forward to the day she would be able to go. She was very excited when we told her this week that she could start. She got her exercise leggings on, her matching t-shirt and even a matching headband. She was jumping around the house, flexing and posing for pictures.
Very excited
Until she arrived at the box
She didn’t want to go in
We told her that this is what she has been wanting since her sister started.
She pitched a bit of a fit – I called it a CrossFit Fit (I’m very witty if I don’t say so myself)
We said she had to go
We had her sister come and get her to lead her over to where the kids were getting ready to start. Eleni went slowly, reluctantly but she went.
AND SHE LOVED IT
She loved it so much that when we went to a store after the workout she was doing burpees in the aisles. When we got home she was practicing her wall walk. Then she did more burpees…in fact, she had a burpee competition with her Mom.
What’s the lesson? I think we all know it…there are many things that we want to do, that we look forward to doing, get really excited about doing right up until it becomes time to do it and then we have doubts. Sometimes these doubts paralyze us and we let those doubts keep us from going forward. Sometimes we overcome these doubts by ourselves and get done what we wanted to get done. Sometimes we have to have support from others to give us a little push to go on. Once we get that push, from ourselves or from others, we find that the we were right to be excited in the first place and our excitement has even grown now that we accomplished our first steps.
Eleni hasn’t missed a class since she started. Today – a day without a Kids Crossfit class – she is wearing her exercise outfit and has already worked out in our living room. She, and we, are glad she accepted the little push to walk across the gym floor with her sister.
(And I want to say to CrossFit Groundspeed – THANK YOU for offering this to our kids. It is making a positive contribution to our life!)
