Colin Kaepernick

I have always been amazed at the vitriol thrown at Colin Kaepernick. I did not understand why so many people were blind to his grievance – that of police brutality. People looked at what he did and when he did it and didn’t go deeper into knowing why he did what he did – and who he spoke to about it before kneeling. Agree or don’t agree with his stance on police brutality but to brand him as a hater of America and the military was wrong.

People are starting to apologize to Mr. Kaepernick in the wake of the George Floyd demonstrations. The NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, stated that the league was wrong with how it dealt with the player protest even if he didn’t expressly apologize to Kaepernick.

Apologies do not fix the issues or even address the issues. But maybe it’s the beginning of the addressing. I do not know Mr. Kaepernick but I imagine that he would rather have action instead of apologies. While I have always supported his protest quietly, mostly within my own household, I will now take action to join his efforts. We must rid our police force of those who cross the line into brutality. However large or small that number of people are, we are required to shine a light on them and expose their behavior.

I wish I could express my thoughts on this in a more elegant, stirring way but that’s not my skill set. I hope you guys understand and will join me in taking the necessary action to fix the issue forever.
