Sand Gnats and Banner Pic

I really like the banner picture on this site – the picture at the top of the pages with the sun shinning through the trees with Spanish moss hanging. What you don’t see because the picture is cropped from the original is a field with a couple of cows hanging out and a fence post that adds to the scene. It’s really a cool picture if I do say so myself 😀.

I took the picture in Richmond Hill, Ga a couple of years ago when we attended a birthday party one of our friends was having for her son. The party was at a petting farm – not sure if that’s what you call it but we got to pet llamas, potbelly pigs, horses, goats, sheep and more. It was quite a place.

Oh wait…I forgot to tell you something else you can’t see in the picture…

Sand Gnats!

Horrible things these sand gnats. If you have never experienced these insects from the devil consider yourself fortunate!

They are relentless.

Some of the folks at the party ate their food in their cars just to get away from them. A couple of guys built a fire with the hope that the smoke would keep them away from them. Smoke in your face is infinitely better than sand gnats anywhere.

But…

I wouldn’t have been able to get the beautiful picture if I didn’t put up with the gnats.

I got bit a lot – as everybody did – but I dealt with the gnats so I could enjoy time with friends and to take beautiful pictures. It’s a lesson that sometimes to get beautiful results you must go through what seems like hell. (Yes, sand gnats are hell. You just don’t know unless you have been around them!)

So, when you’re going through it, when you’re getting “ate up” by nasty little bugs, keep your focus on the results you are wanting to achieve.

They can be beautiful
